Webb4 aug. 2024 · As early as 1934 the Army Corps of Engineers had proposed the building of a dam on the Delaware River in the vicinity of Tocks Island, just north of the Water Gap. The subject arose again in 1939, at which time it was determined that the location was not suitable because of a fault line in the area. WebbWhen completed, the Tocks Island Dam would have created a 37-mile long lake between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with depths of up to 140 feet and permanently destroying and flooding many homes, towns and villages on both sides of the river. This lake and the land surrounding it were to be organized as the Tocks Island National Recreation Area.
